High Efficiency Toilets are specially designed for water conservation. They are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Plumbing Agency. These kinds of flushes use 1.28 gallons of water per flush as compared to conventional 1.6 gallons per flush. By using high efficiency toilets, 8,760 gallons of water can be saved per year for a family of four with number of average flushes per day being six.
Water savings will be more in those climates where water is in lesser supply.
High Efficiency Dual Flush Toilets are designed for light and heavy flushes. They use less than 1.2 gallons of water per flush on an average. Hence, they meet the criteria of high efficiency toilets of using 1.28 or less gallons of water per flush.
These dual flush models are manufactured by many well known makers and are available in light as well as heavy flush capacities. The light flush capacity ranges from .8 to 1.1 gallons per flush and heavy flush spends 1.3 to 1.6 gallons of water per flush. These types of toilets usually operate with either a handle which can move up or down or a two button system. On direction or button activates lower flow flush and the other direction activates the higher flow flush.
